Wednesday

Tonight the whole team is tired and some of us are a little sore. Matt and David mixed about 30 bags of concrete by hand & filled post holes, I spent the day on my knees laying 18" ceramic tile on a floor.....Ray spent the day ripping ceramic tiles off a floor and preparing it for re-tiling. Bill installed baseboard.
The highlight of our day was "supper" tonight. Tom, Jen and Elizabeth came to have supper with us. They live in Staten Island, NY. Wait till you see what some of us had after dinner.
I will have photos uploaded tomorrow eve. I am exhausted, getting up at 5:00 AM every morning takes it's toll on you. Check back tomorrow evening for another update and photos.

Tuesday's Work Day.

This was my sanding & painting attire for the day.
Oh no...Henry was caught working again. Believe it or not, he was a painting machine today. Tom the Turkey was his supervisor. He actually was roaming among all the workers cackling.
The following are photos from Matt, Ray & David's job. They went to this home to tear out some moldy drywall in the kitchen & look at the hardwood flooring to see if it needed removed as well. The homeowner told the guys that the water from Hurricane Sandy came in her home & was up to her knees in the kitchen where they stood. The guys agreed that the buckled flooring needed to be removed, so that it what they spent the rest of their day doing.  Tomorrow they are scheduled to return to the decking job that was awaiting the permits...."Flexibility" is a must on mission trips.

More Monday Photos

Yes ......that really is Henry on his knees washing the floor!
This is Tom the Turkey.

The above photos are all of Matt's team taking turns digging holes & prepping for a deck. Stay tuned tomorrow for more photos and an update.

Marvelous Monday!

Our team today was split up & went to 2 different works sites. Bill, Henry & I were teamed up with 3 other guys from the camp. We worked in a basement all day. The home had an apartment in this basement that a handicapped gentleman rented from the owner.  We grouted floor tiles, washed dried grout from some floors that a previous team failed to do and applied some mud to prepare for sanding & painting. We also visited with the pet Turkey, Tom. There was also a few chickens there & 25,000 honey bees which spent some time in the bathroom over the winter until their new home outside was ready. To our amazement Tom the Turkey also spent the winter in the house......WOW!
Our homeowner has her garage filled with items she gives out to the needy and when her detached garage is complete she will have a little food pantry in it. She loves people & animals!

Matt, Dave, David & Ray spent a few hours digging holes.....40" deep, through sand, concrete, wood and asphalt. They need to wait till the inspector comes out to inspect the holes before they can continue their job. They will be on a different job tomorrow tearing up flooring.

The food is really good and the cooks make sure we have our fruits & veggies. More photos will follow as soon as we are done playing 5 Crowns......so stay tuned.
Henry I ate FISH...

This is the Barnegate Lighthouse. We climbed to the top...all 217 stairs.

Arrived Safe

Arrived at our host church around 4:00 PM. Met our hosts and got our room assignments. 4 of our team are staying at that site and the other 3 of us are staying at King Of Kings church about 15 min away. King Of Kings is also a site where some homeless folks are staying.
Bill was the winner of 5 Crowns tonight.....but I (Chris) had the most points, so that makes me a winner too dosen't it? Off to bed now.
Stay tunned for tomorrow's update.
